How to save iPhone battery life even further

Posted in How-To iPhone on 1st November 2011

There have
been a lot of reports coming from users of the iPhone over the last few days
regarding their poor battery life. It is thought that the main reason for this
is due to a bug in the iOS5 operating system which is causing the GPS system to
be triggered more often than it should, therefore using up all of the phones
battery life. However, there are a number of things that you can do to save
your battery life on your iPhone and we have mentioned a few already. However,
here are a few more.

One of the
things that you can do is to actually disable a part of Siri if you have an
iPhone 4S. Of course, this is something that a lot of people will buy the
iPhone for now but if you disable the ‘Raise to Speak’ feature. This feature
basically uses the iPhones light sensor to allow you to activate Siri but this
has been found to be a battery drain. Until Apple comes up with a solution for
this, it is best to disable this feature.

Another
thing that you can do is to disable location based reminders. Having these on
will decrease your battery life much faster as your iPhone will constantly be
checking your location. This is a simple fix and will allow you to save a whole
lot of battery life.

Expanded iPhone 4S launch by Apple

Posted in iPhone News on 29th October 2011

iPhone 4S launch created a history of sorts by touching record sales of 4 million units in just 72 hours of its opening to the market. On any count this is the most successful launch of any new product. The sales figures, mind boggling as they are might even see a further rise because the bigger numbers are yet to come! Apple has launched the pre-orders for shipment of iPhone 4S in two dozen countries more, thus kicking off full scale international launch of the mobile handset.

Prominent among the 22 countries where iPhone 4S is launched are Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, UK and Japan. All of these are powerful potential markets and Apple is expecting a further boost to its already astronomical sales figures. The initial release and the response it got suggest the repeat of similar success. However, it should be noted that the critics had come out with a lukewarm reception about the product and the sales have proved them so wrong!
The main criticism of the iPhone 4S is the lack of design updates and 4G connectivity, but it should be noted that the device comes with significant hardware updates to enhance the capabilities of processor. The phone supports iOS 5 firmware and Siri voice control.

Is ‘IRIS’ Google’s answer to Apple’s SIRI?

Posted in iPhone News on 29th October 2011

It is ironic that the name IRIS is reversal of Apple’s famed app for iPhone 4S, SIRI. But it is not just in the name; IRIS has the same feature of voice interaction to command and control the mobile device. You must be aware that Siri is one of the prominent feature of Apple’s iPhone 4S that let’s you command the phone with two way communication. Now the Iris program is available as a free download from Android Market.

But there is more to Iris than just voice commands. It can make your converse with you on a wide range of topics from science, philosophy, art to culture and also engage in general conversation too!

Apple had released Vlingo as a free iPhone app that had voice control features working as personal assistant. It was acquired by Apple and offered as a free app prior to SIRI. Apple intended to present iPhone 4S as a “world phone” in the sense that it is one device that can work with GSM carriers using micro SIM cards worldwide.

Apple is releasing iPhone 4S in 22 countries more including Austria, Netherlands, Finland and Czech Republic. It is now available for pre-order booking on online stores.

Drawbacks of Unlocked phones from Apple?

Posted in iPhone Tips on 29th October 2011

The iPhone lovers all over the world are eagerly waiting for the Apple’s new unlocked device that is expected to be launched in the market within 15 days. This iPhone is going to satisfy those customers who want to have their desired brand smartphone in their pockets not including strings of contract. But Mercury News has warned about the drawbacks of such unlocked iPhone mobiles.
It should be noted that such iPhones are quiet costly and the consumers who go for buying this product directly from the Apple are offered with this smartphone at a cost of $450. And the 16 GB versions of unlocked iPhone 4S is available within the price range of $500 or $650. But the main drawback of this unlocked iPhone is that it is made to cop up with only compatible GSM network while it fails to operate on CDMA.

The choice of a carrier also matters when you are the owner of unlocked iPhone 4S version as many of them do not offer discounts with regards to data plans. For example, AT&T claims same amount for the rendering of service and also the T-Mobiles do not entertain all the frequencies. Therefore the iPhone 4S users have to be satisfied with only slower speed operation.

Bug detected in Siri Voice controller for iPhone 4S

Posted in iPhone News on 29th October 2011

route hd 20100607 Bug detected in Siri Voice controller for iPhone 4SThere is a security flaw detected in Siri voice activated PA (personal assistant) for iPhone 4S. Even when the iPhone is locked by password, the device responds to voice command! The Siri program for 4S controls all the operations via voice commands and it has two way communication capabilities that allow it to chat with the owner.

But the Apple program controlling iPhone has allowed the program to be ON by default. That is true, even when the phone is locked. It means that anyone can access the phone to send text messages or even make alterations to the calendar, without asking for password. One can play music also by voice commands.

But you can not launch any applications when the phone is locked but send the messages to the existing contacts.

How to fix this flaw? Go to Settings/ General/ Pass code lock and ensure that the Siri option is set to OFF. Though it will not stop the Siri program but when the phone is locked one can not launch the Siri functions.

It is surprising why Apple could not have made this choice in the software itself and overcome this flaw by avoiding default mode for Siri.

iPhone 4s Review

Those expecting an all new, singing and dancing iPhone may have been a little disappointed in recent findings that the new device was an iPhone 4S. However the new phone is a massive leap for the company, though perhaps not in the superficial sense.

The iPhone 4S comes with a number of new and exciting innovations that will get many excited. The advent of dual core A5 processor, the same as in the iPad will be of interest to many and provides the device with twice the power for processing and with the new GPU – 7 times the graphical processing power. This is an awesome amount of capability increase for the device and will surely impress those who get their hands on the phone.

The iPhone 4S device also comes with an improved reception due to the two aerials now on offer inside. This will prevent any of the issues that plagued the previous device. It will also mean that the device is faster connected than the previous one in more testing conditions.

Apple has given the new device a larger camera. The new flasher can take 8mp shots as well as record 1080p video – pushing it to the fore of the phone manufacturing community and meaning the iPhone isn’t ostracised for its poor camera.

Obviously the new Siri application on the device has gotten a lot of press. This new voice control application allows the device to function in ways seen before on many Android phone contracts, but just in a more accurate fashion. It is now possible to send messages through voice control accurately, as well as instruct the device to do currency conversions and other tasks that would have been a little bit of an issue with previous phones.

The new iOS 5 is also show cased on the device and it is by far and away the very best operating system on any device on offer at the moment. The OS looks very similar to the previous iPhones however includes a number of new features such as instant messaging through the iMessage feature, iCloud, and improved reader function as well as a better Newsstand and new notifications features from a drop down menu.

So, though the iPhone 4S looks the exact same as the previous iPhone it is a huge step up for the manufacturer and really pushes the iPhone to the fore of the phone market again.

How to get the most out of your iPhone 4S

Posted in How-To iPhone on 24th October 2011

There are a lot of fantastic new features in iOS5 and the iPhone 4S that has just been released but the problem with some of these features is that a lot of people won’t use them as effectively as they could. For example, the Siri feature seems to be a nice addition to the phone and probably something that many of you will have a lot of fun with; however, you can actually sue the feature to tell your phone to do just about anything extremely easily.

There are a number of other great features in the iOS5 software and the iPhone 4S such as the reminders application. One of the best ways to take full advantage of this is to actually make sure you know of all the features. For example, there is the feature of using your location in order to get it to remind you about certain things. This is extremely useful in a practical situation and it is something that all iOS5 users should really have a play around with.

Other great features on the iPhone4S and the iOS5 device include iCloud. This is a fantastic way to make sure that all of your things are backed up but it has to be turned on in the settings menu. This is a two minute job and something that every iOS5 user should make sure to do.

Hackers working on making Siri work on older iPhone models too!

Posted in iPhone News on 23rd October 2011

Siri is built to work on the brand new iPhone 4S but it is possible to run the same on other iOS devices also but you need to do some work on it.

The newly released iPhone 4S is blessed with the voice control command to manage its operation by this Siri program people are experimenting to run the same on other older devices including iPad and also the old iPhone 4.

There were some experiments by hacker geniuses to get this running on iPod Touch and Gold Master which run on iOS5, but they were not successful. They are trying the same thing on the new iPhone and the results are promising.

It is amazing that these geniuses manages to make it tick on iPhone 4 within 48 hours of release of Siri voice command controller and iPhone 4S hitting the stores. Irish iPhone hacker Steve Troughton Smith has released a video showing the Siri running on iPhone 4 but there is a catch. Apple program allows the communication with only iPhone 4S and it is hoped that even this limitation would be worked around soon! It is a matter of time for even this limitation to be removed, it is hoped.
