BBC Launches iPlayer Application on iPhone and iPad

Posted in iPhone Apps on 13th December 2011

The BBC; a UK based broadcasting company, has finally released a native application for the Apple iPhone and iPad devices that will let users stream their favourite TV shows. The app that has been released by the BBC has been a while in the making and is now available to download from the iTunes app store free of charge. The app will require that users have an iPhone 3GS device or later and have the iOS 4.3 software installed as a minimum. The application allows users to be able to catch up on TV shows that they might have missed as well as radio shows on a variety of channels and stations owned by the BBC.

Previously, Apple iPhone and iPad users were able to use the iPlayer on their devices although there wasn’t a native app. This meant that users had to launch the iPlayer website in Safari on the devices and browse the iPhone and iPad versions of the iPlayer website. The application will make it easier than ever for users to be able to catch up on programming that they might have missed and users can even watch live TV.

Users will be able to stream the content over either 3G or Wi-Fi meaning that they will be able to catch up on programming anywhere they like. The BBC has said that they will shortly be rolling out 3G streaming on their native apps for Blackberry, Nokia and other devices.

Apple iPhone 4S now selling in China

Posted in iPhone News on 12th December 2011

Apple’s latest iPhone 4S device has already gone on sale in a number of countries all around the world but this week, the device was cleared for sale in China. China is a country that is well known for their strict controls when it comes to mobile communications and internet access and in the past, there have been a number of websites disallowed as well as devices. The Apple iPhone 4S however has now been cleared by the Ministry of Technology who issue the strict controls within the country.

The iPhone 4S was finally given the clearing on December 6 2011 in China and it will now be on sale within the country. Apple has been granted a three year certificate by the Ministry that will allow them to sell the phone for that amount of time. Apple’s iPhone 4S device will now be for sale within the country on the Unicom network. Usually, mobile phones in China are not locked to a specific network but the introduction of the iPhone back in 2009 saw this change as Apple required it to be sold by one operator. This is also the case with the latest iPhone 4S device.

The Apple iPhone 4S device is expected to go on sale in China just after Christmas this year which does mean that Apple will miss out on the Christmas shopping period in the country. Apple is said to currently be testing the Unicom network and investigating whether it can handle the phone.

Apple iPhone 5 to feature quad core processor

Posted in iPhone News on 6th December 2011

The iPhone 5 rumour mill is in full swing once again after rumours that Apple would be releasing the iPhone 5 device next year instead of this year. It was previously said that Apple have actually been working on the iPhone 5 for quite some time but then it was stopped for release by Steve Jobs as it wasn’t good enough for the market. Now, it is rumoured that Apple could be installing a quad core processor in the iPhone, making it one of the fastest phones on the market.

The rumour is that Apple is testing two different versions of the iPhone 5; one of which has a quad core processor and one of which has a dual core processor. It is thought that they are currently testing performances to see which one should be used in the phone. It is rumoured that the Apple A6 quad core processor will be used for the next release of the iPad next year too.

There is also rumour that the iPhone 5 will have a super retina display due to its larger screen. It is rumoured that the iPhone 5 screen will be 4 inches in size and that Apple is planning a screen resolution of 1280 by 720 which would mean a huge 365ppi. The iPhone 5 is expected to be released in the summer of 2012 so there is still quite a wait for Apple fans.

How to get rid of carrier tracking on iPhone

Posted in How-To iPhone on 2nd December 2011

There has been a lot of concern over the last few days about the Carrier IQ feature that is present in the iPhone device as well as a lot of other phones out there. It is thought that this software will actually allow the network operator to track what you are doing on your phone and use the data in their research and things like that. A lot of people feel concerned about privacy these days and most people with an iPhone will be looking to turn this feature off. Luckily, this is entirely possible.

Apple has actually issued a statement following the concern over the Carrier IQ saying that in the latest iOS 5 upgrade, they no longer support the software so it should be turned off by default. However, iOS 5 does still have metrics software installed and in order to make sure that this is turned off on your phone, all you will have to do is to go into your settings menu and click location services. After this, you will need to scroll to the bottom of the window and click system services. In this, you can turn off the Diagnostics and usage setting. This will ensure that no information about the usage of your phone is sent to anyone as you will not be contributing with usage diagnostics.

If you are concerned about privacy, we highly recommended doing this with your iPhone.
